Seven the new home of state-based Saturday footy

The Seven Network has continued to build its state-based football league broadcast rights portfolio with the announcement that it has secured 2015 broadcast rights to Sydney’s premier rugby union competition the Shute Shield.

Under the new deal, Saturday’s match-of-the-day will be seen LIVE throughout the season on 7TWO, regionally through Prime and on 7 Digital.

The deal follows Club Rugby TV obtaining a short-term exclusive licence from NSW Rugby late last year to negotiate an agreement with a free-to-air television broadcaster and source commercial partners and sponsors.

Intrust Super has signed a three-year deal as naming rights sponsor for the competition.

The move by Seven to broadcast Sydney’s premier rugby union competition LIVE on Saturdays, mirrors its move to purchase state league Australian Rules Football broadcast rights in South Australia (the SANFL), Victoria (the VFL) and Western Australia (the WAFL). All these competitions were previously broadcast by the ABC TV but have now found a free-to-air home with Seven.

Seven’s coverage of the Intrust Super Shute Shield begins this Saturday with the season opener between Eastern Suburbs and Gordon.
