Swimming on 7TWO

While the 2013 FINA World Swimming Championships were not broadcast in Australia, the 2015 FINA World Swimming Championships from Kazan, Russia will be with LIVE and FREE coverage on 7TWO and 7swimming.com.au, starting tomorrow (Sunday) with LIVE coverage of heats from 4:30pm AEST (live coverage of heats will start at this time daily for the duration of the Championships). Live coverage of finals will start daily at 12:30am, with replays at 2pm or 2:30pm daily on 7TWO.

The World Championships are an important stepping stone for Australia’s Olympic hopefuls, with Rio 2016 just over a year away.

Seven’s coverage will be hosted by Basil Zempilas, with expert commentary from Olympic gold medalist Giaan Rooney and poolside interviewer Nathan Templeton.

With Seven also the Australian broadcast rights holder for the Rio 2016 Olympics, the broadcast of the FINA World Swimming Championships is the perfect opportunity for Seven to begin ramping up the marketing of its Olympic coverage. In fact, straight after LIVE World Championship coverage on Monday (at 6:45pm) Seven is premiering on 7TWO its first Olympics-related program, Olympians: Off The Record.

The show, which is hosted by the doyen of Olympic broadcasters Bruce McAvaney, will have candid interviews with 12 Australian Olympians, including Susie O’Neill.

  1. Why does Basil Zempilas refer to an Egyptian swimmer as The Egyptian (no name) and calls everyone else e.g. Joe Blow from/of Britain, Germany, USA etc. He referred to The Egyptian through the race, the others by name .. of country . Does he realise how obvious his manner is ?
