In the early hours of this morning (Australian time) Rafael Nadal<\/strong> put the finishing touches to his sixth French Open <\/strong>crown, after defeating Roger Federer<\/strong> in the Men’s Final. The attention now turns to the grass courts and the All England Club<\/strong> for the Wimbledon Championships<\/strong>. For the first time ever the Seven Network<\/strong> have acquired the Wimbledon <\/strong>free-to-air rights, after previous rights holder the Nine Network <\/strong>did not renew its rights after nearly 40 years broadcasting the tournament.<\/p>\n Seven<\/strong> in recent days has begun to run promos for its Wimbledon<\/strong> coverage across Seven<\/strong> and 7TWO <\/strong>and has issued a press release regarding its coverage.<\/p>\n The key theme the press release is that Seven’s coverage will be live<\/strong>.?During the first week of the Championships (from June 20) the live broadcast kicks off nightly at 9pm (AEST) on 7TWO<\/strong>, and from 10pm on 7TWO <\/strong>during the second week. From 11pm each night<\/strong> the coverage will then swap over to Seven<\/strong>. Seven’s coverage will be complemented by Fox Sports’<\/strong> coverage of the tournament, however Seven<\/strong> has the right to broadcast the best two matches of each day’s play exclusively live; and it will also have exclusively live coverage of all singles and doubles finals and singles semi-finals on Seven<\/strong>, with some states receiving that coverage first on 7TWO<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Seven?s Head of Sport, Saul Shtein<\/strong> said,<\/p>\n ?Having secured the first selection of the best two matches each day, viewers on Seven will enjoy the pick of the tennis crop. And best of all we can guarantee it will be live on either 7TWO or Channel 7 and it won?t cost them a cent.?<\/p><\/blockquote>\n Seven’s coverage will be hosted by tennis great Todd Woodbridge<\/strong> with expert commentary from former Nine<\/strong> commentator John Newcombe.<\/strong> According Seven’s?press release<\/a> the commentary team also includes familiar faces from Seven’s Australian Open<\/strong> coverage including Rennae Stubbs<\/strong> and Sam Smith<\/strong>. In what appears to be an attempt to lower Seven’s broadcast costs, the network will also take commentary from the world feed<\/strong> provided by host broadcaster <\/strong>the BBC<\/strong>, who have John McEnroe <\/strong>as one of its commentators. McEnroe use <\/strong>to commentate for Seven <\/strong>at the Australian Open<\/strong> before Jim Courier<\/strong> stepped behind the microphone.<\/p>\n Fox Sports<\/strong>‘ coverage will be spearheaded by Wally Masur <\/strong>(fresh from his French Open<\/strong> coverage duties), Adam Peacock<\/strong> and Alicia Molik<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
